#1 De Paul Alternative High School
January 6, 2014 by Becca Jordan

Our first week back after the holidays was spent at De Paul Alternative High School, a school we are quite familiar with located in NE Portland next to the expansive Cully Community Garden. We welcomed new staff Dr. Bruce Richardson to the team.

Students in this residential treatment program were very respectful and appreciative of the dental care that was given. Many of them were thankful for the personal one-on-one oral hygiene instructions.  We could tell at subsequent appointments that they were brushing better. Some of the students needed some extensive work; they had a lot of questions about treatment and they all loved watching the movies. The shock and appreciation they had when they received their visit summaries outlining services provided and dollar value was great. It was valuable to them to see how much the dental treatment would have cost.

Our mascot Scout came and visited us on Friday for a few minutes and as usual stole all the attention. He is a very loved and popular canine on the Tooth Taxi.

From the kid gallery:
"I've never been so excited to get my teeth done."
"Joy to the world the Tooth Taxi's here." Sung to the tune of Joy to the World
"Thank You."
"Wow it would cost that much?!!"

Other notes:
86% of students screened needed treatment
14% needed no treatment.
