|#30 Reynolds High School, Troutdale
|October 26 – 30, 2015 by Carrie Peterson
It’s difficult to believe that a teenager has never been to the dentist. During our trip to Reynolds High School in Troutdale we found just that, several kids who had never had dental care. Due to the diverse population here we encountered language barriers all week. For a few students this meant that for their first dental visit ever they needed to have a tooth extracted and couldn’t understand what we were telling them or ask questions. This was challenging for the team but they did a great job of working with the school, coordinating translators for the multiple languages spoken by our patients. The school support staff at Reynolds was extremely supportive and went out of their way to help make our visit successful.
With 63% of the students screened needing work we were grateful to have DFO Board Member and one of our most loyal volunteers Dr. Jan Peterson with us for two days during our visit.
