#7 Woodburn and the Capitol Dental Day
February 17, 2015 by Carrie Peterson
This week the Tooth Taxi split our time between Valor Middle School in Woodburn and the ODA Dental Day at the Capitol building in Salem. We happened to be in Salem on the same day that Governor Brown was being sworn in, so we lost our spot next to the Capitol steps and quickly had to come up with plan B. We decided to join the press across the street and after some expert driving skills by our assistant, Catherine Johnson, we were able to squeeze The Tooth Taxi into place and get set up.

Jodi Loper with the Salem Boys and Girls Club was able to identify and transport local children who had immediate dental needs and no insurance or other resources for care. We are so appreciative of this partnership and all of the hard work Jodi puts in to making this day a success.

We also had Dr. Joni Young and her assistant Savanna with us to help provide dental services. As president elect for the Oregon Dental Association, Dr. Young was also busy discussing oral health with legislators and fellow dentists inside the Capitol building.

After an exciting and productive day in Salem we moved The Tooth Taxi back to Valor Middle School in Woodburn to continue treatment on our patients there. Here Dr. Carneiro was able to restore two canines with facial decay on a student, not only improving the overall health of these teeth but also boosting this patient's self-esteem.
